Y&G CHAIR of Board of directors, 49TH Youth Governor, CONA Presiding Officer
Alex Mircheff learned about Youth & Government at the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA when he was a freshman in high school. Y&G quickly became his favorite activity, as it helped him meet a wide variety of young people who were eager to voice their opinions about pressing social issues and to learn from each other.
Eventually, as a high school senior, Alex served as the California Model Legislature’s youth governor and was selected as a presiding officer at the YMCA of the USA’s Conference on National Affairs.
Alex remained involved with Y&G as an adult. During college at UC Davis, he volunteered as an advisor to the El Dorado delegation, and for 15 years spanning college, law school and professional life, he also volunteered as an advisor to each year’s elected youth governor. He joined the program’s Board of Directors in 2011 and currently serves as the Board Chair.
Alex credits Y&G for teaching him the importance of hard work, mentorship and collegiality. Those values helped him graduate first in his class from Loyola Law School and led to clerkships with federal judges in Los Angeles and on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Today, Alex regularly draws on his Y&G experience in his job as a litigation partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, one of world’s leading law firms and a strong supporter of Y&G.
