Press Corps:

Press Corps Media Lab
Hyatt Hotel, Sacramento
The Press Corps includes severeal areas of reporting throughout the program.
  1. The "Y&G Daily Voice" is a daily newspaper produced each year in Sacramento on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Model Legislature & Court.
  2. A Sunday feature magazine, "To What Point Do You Rise?", is also produced at the Model Legislature & Court.
  3. "NIC News", produced Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Sacramento, highlights specific information and interests in the National Issues Commission program area.
  4. "The Court Reporter" focuses on the Judicial side of the program and is produced on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Sacramento.
  5. A yearly "Digital Yearbook" is published by the State Historian, with assistance from other Press Corps staff.

Delegates are trained on computers and utilize industry standard layout software and tools produced with each publication. While stories are reviewed by the advisors, the content and style of each publication is entiely determined by the student staff.

At T&E 2 delegates may choose to work from any of five publications in a specific section.

  • Opinions & Editorials: commentaries, editorials, political cartoons, letters to the editor.
  • News: stories on Y&G events, coverage of each program area.
  • Features: spotlight stories on program participants, polls, creative writing, Y&G fashion.
  • Entertainment: reviews on Y&G and non-Y&G activities.
  • Business: sell clasified addes to Y&G, sell adds to local businesses.

After choosing a section, each participant is given a story assignment. This is very similar to how Sacramento works, too. Stories will be due on Sunday. The stories written at T&E 2 are used for the first publication in Sacramento.

The advisors provide writing and computer training for delegates and welcome students with prior journalism experience or those who are new and ready to learn.

In Sacramento, there are regular chek in times during the day and regular deadlines. All Press Corps members are expected to contribute with each publications.

An attempt is also made to provide guest speakers, QuarkXPress workshops, have weekend group activites and require delegates to interview for the Jury Trial programor assist the Secretary of State with polling duty over the weekend.

Senior leadership positions, as well as limited photographer and artist positions are also available by application only. These are available through in the Forms section of this website as they become available.
