This award is named for "Van", who was our
first statewide director, serving from 1949 to 1954. Because of his
dedication and service to the education of our youth, this award was
created and named for him by the Alumni Association in 1982.
Selection of each year's recipients is always
difficult because there are many delegates who make significant contributions
to the program. This award, therefore, is not "won" by one delegate
over another. It is presented to delegates who not only provide outstanding
service to the program, but who also demonstrate volunteer service,
have personal character and do a good job of representing their fellow
delegates.
