In 1994, the name of the fund was changed to The Governor Deukmejian
Endowment Fund, as a tribute to Deukmejian. Contributions to the Governor
Deukmejian Endowment Fund are invested through the National YMCA Fund.
Gifts to the fund's principal are restricted and only the earnings
can be spent.
Each year, a percentage of the earnings are directed into the scholarship
fund for distribution by the Youth & Government Scholarship Committee.
A portion of the earnings remain with the fund to safeguard against
a possible poor investment year. The total market value of The Governor
Deukmejian Endowment Fund, including both restricted and unrestricted
funds, is about $1.6 Million.
If you or someone you know would be interested in contributing to
the Fund, Governor Deukmejian and the YMCA staff would be pleased
to discuss with you the benefits of making a direct donation, or a
planned charitable contribution in your Will. Please contact the Youth &
Government office (650) 522-YMCA.
